mais uma daquelas histórias do rock. no dia 25 de março de 1980, ano do lançamento do primeiro álbum fresh fruit for rotting vegetables, os dead kennedys foram convidados pra tocar no bay area music awards, organizado por grandes gravadoras da época. eles tocariam somente uma música, o hit california uber alles, mas numa atitude subversiva e até perversa, jello biafra, logo nos primeiros acordes diz: hold it! we've gotta prove that we're adults now. we're not a punk rock band, we're a new wave band. nesse momento puxam suas gravatas, que estavam viradas pra trás, pra formar o símbolo do dólar sobre a letra s pintada em suas camisas (conforme mostrado na foto acima). começam assim a tocar a música pull my strings, que só foi sair na compilação give me convenience or give me death, de 87. nem é necessário dizer que nunca mais foram convidados pra tocar nesse festival. o vídeo ao vivo dessa música e a letra estão logo abaixo. divirta-se.
